Outer Appearance   Leave a comment

A couple of weeks ago I was looking at the man. He wasn’t what some people may not consider physically attractive. He was married and had two beautiful children. But the Holy Spirit put a thought in my heart and said "what if Jesus looked like this man". I thought about it some and looked more at this man. It didn’t appear there wasn’t anything physically wrong with him. He just wasn’t what some may consider physically attractive. I thought how he may get treated bad by people because of his less of attraction. I also began to have the same thoughts earlier this morning. I began to think about how people that have money are more respected than those who has less. They are treated like nothings. I thought, that’s not fair. Then I remembered how God looks at the heart, but man looks at the outer appearance (1 Samuel 16:7; 2 Corinthians 10:7). What’s sad, there are so many people that have money and they don’t look the part. So some are being hypocrites when they treat those with more, better than they treat those with less. I also thought how much they could be missing out by doing that. The Lord began to minister to me about the man in the Bible that was beaten up by thieves and left for dead (Luke 10:27-37). While he laid half dead, the Bible mentioned two certain individuals (a Levite and a priest) passed him by. All they probably saw was how he looked because they passed him by on the other side. You would think if anyone would help him it would have been the priest. But a lowly Samaritan man helped this man out by cleaning up his wounds and put him up at a hotel. Then gave the hotel owner more money for anything the man needed. That Samaritan showed God’s heart, mercy. Then I thought about that scripture that talked about how we are to show hospitality to strangers because they could be angels, unaware (Hebrews 13:2). That’s showing love and mercy. Going back to that man that I was looking at earlier; what if Jesus looked like him. How many people passed Jesus up because He didn’t look or dress good like a rich person? So many get so caught up in how they look or how another person look. So many are judged based on their appearance (good or bad, attractive or unattractive). There are so many attractive people that are dying, physically, more important, spiritually. What’s sad, too many churches promote this kind of behavior. I heard this one pastor say this man approached him and said you are a pastor. This pastor said the man said that because he noticed the anointing on him. But the Holy Spirit (who knows our hearts) told me, that man knew that pastor because how he’s dressed. There’s a scripture that warns us about those that have a form of godliness, but they are denying the power (2 Timothy 3:5), which is from God. Next time you look at an unattractive man, think about "what if that’s how Jesus looked". And think about the scripture in Isaiah 53:2 that says "Jesus did not have a beauty that we should desire Him".
